Cycling my fish aquarium HELP PLEASE!?
8 Months ago I bought a small tank for a box turtle i found. I made a little pool in the tank so the turtle could get water whenever it needed it because box turtles dont spend a whole lot of time in the water. After a while I decided I wanted to put a few fish in the pond. I bought fish a couple of times and they kept dying. Thinking temperature was the issue I tried acclimating them more before releasing them into the mini tank. After I did this all but three fish died striped tetra, rosy, small catfish and those three fish survived for about 6 months until I accidentally killed them in my next aquarium attempt. I knew nothing about cycling and apparently had cycled my mini tank on accident because they survived when I overfed them every other day. how else would the ammonia have just disappeared if it wasn't cycled . Still not knowing about cycling I bought a new 10 gallon aquarium a couple days ago. Set it all up the way I wanted it and bought fish again and introduced them oops . They all died along with the three fish that I had kept for so long. This is when I began researching and found out about cycling and learned all about it. After learning that I should use media from my old tank I replaced about 25 % of my new tank water with old tank water, cut up part of my old filter sponge and put it into my new filter, and I put my old filter on my new tank along side my new filter for about 4 hours. Then the next day today I bought a master test kit and found that my Ph is 7.2, ammonia is 1.0ppm, Nitrite 1.0ppm, Nitrate 10ppm. I understand how the cycle works I just don't understand what this tells me. Because there is some nitrate does that mean my tank is somewhat cycled? Do these results mean anything? What should I do to ensure that it is cycled and when could I possible introduce more fish? Thanks in advance this is much appreciated

So I'm gonna start a saltwater tank. What do I need for the water? I have to use tap water, I know I can buy the salt at petco, what else do I need for the water? Any tips would be great
Which is better to have in an aquarium sand or gravel? (Please explain why)?
Also, is it ok to put sand over the top of gravel thats already in the tank? If you decide to change from sand to gravel I have a layer of gravel in my tank not an overly big layer & I've heard that gravel can actually carry things such as ich within it if your tank has had previous issue's of ich, where as sand doesn't have this issue does it .So out of two, which are better & what are the benefits of each one please?Which is more prone to carrying ich for example then, sand or gravel? thanks
How would a motoro stingray pair do in a 8 by 3 by 2 aquarium?
This would be a male and female pair. That would be a 360 gallon aquarium. There would be a pair or 55 gallon sump tanks below. i haven't worked out the sump situation yet. There will be 100 gallons of sump down there though. All sumps would be customized to be filters. There would be two marineland 90 gallon external hang on filters to keep the water flowing and some extra smaller filters that are not used.
Is sponge filters good enough for my aquarium?
I am growing out some discus.attempting to that is.i am not to sound cocky but really good a keeping aquariums 6 hard years and counting .my discus are beautiful in my 180 gallon but only 1 has grown to 3.5" .the rest of them at best 2.5" .a guru of mine said go bare bottom.i set up a 55 gallon with an air wand and 2 large sponge filters.i know for a breeders tank this is ideal but to grow fish out to their max potential is this good I wonder?i have had them in this setup for three weeks and have seen no difference in size.i do 75 % water change everyday and feed 2x a day.i.e frozen b.w,frozen brime shrimp,tetra granules,freeze dried tubifex worms,or beef heart.sometimes live black worms or tubifex .am I doing something wrong for growing my discus.
Question about Aquarium Lighting?
I have a 30 gallon aquarium in my bedroom, with a deluxe lighted hood. My room is VERY dark becuase i keep the light out by covering the windows etc. I was wondering if I could run my tank longer than usual maybe like 6 or so hours. I have 2 gouramis in the tank and the natural light in my room is alomst none so i would like them to have some light, but I dont want algae growing. Also, ive had very bad experience with algae controlling chemicals as well. Any Tips Thanks.
HELP ME! RED ALGAE GROWTH IN MARINE AQUARIUM!?
My saltwater aquarium recently started growing red slime algae. So... I cleaned my tank, then a day later its the same. It is out of control and covering everything, I have no idea what to do, are there any pet stores that sell red slime algae killer? 300 Watt Aquarium Heater in 20 Gallon Tank?
I have a 20 gallon long fish tank. I recently acquired a 300 watt heater. What temperature would i set the heater to in order to achieve about an 80 degree temperature in my tank?Just curious cus I'm not sure if heaters are preset to exert a certain amount of heat to whatever temperature you set it to or if they have internal thermometers to measure the temperature of the water.
